ONAR is a real Greek
restaurant where friends and clients enjoy a variety of tastes of the
Greek cuisine which is based on a gastronomy that goes back in time more
than 2,500 years.
Onar's cuisine is a combination of traditions and unique tastes of
ingredients from the island and all over Greece.
Using the best and freshest products we offer to you traditional Lesvos
island cooking; salads, dips (meze), main dishes and appetizers. Home made
cookies and sweets are a must for accompanying our prime quality coffees.
We also offer a variety of vegetarian dishes.
Please, do note that ingredients such us olive and olive oil, freshly
baked bread, fruits, vegetables, dried nuts, sesame, honey and more are
the the base for our cooking recipes.

Some of our clients,
who keep visiting and love our restaurant, often ask Theano, the owner, to
prepare for them dishes that aren't part of the Menu. Some others, mainly
youngs, keep coming back asking for their favorite disk and it is not very
seldom that Theano has to write down for them the recipe so that they can
experiment their Greek cuisine cooking talents back home.
With selected wines
from Lesvos, adjacent islands Lemnos and Samos and the rest of Greece,
with lots of local ouzo (which apparently is the best there is) and
tsipouro from Thessaly and Crete we claim to make you an ambassador of our
culture, traditions and great hospitality.

ONAR is located in
one of the nicest spots of Molivos (or Mithymna, North Aegean's most known
resort, on Lesvos island); that is its picturesque harbour.
You'll find our restaurant in the end of it, in a renovated traditional a
2-storey house of stone and wood with a veranda of majestic views of the
small fishing port and Molivos Bay.

In her childhood,
Theano was very lucky to see and try, next to mum and grandma (experts of
the Greek cuisine) incredible tastes and dishes prepared with love and
care.
At the "katogi" (a cellar where ingredients were stored and food
was prepared) she used to admire mum, grandma, the aunties and often more
women from the village preparing food that had to match with the season of
the year, the celebrations, the tradition, the land.
When she was playing with her friends she always liked to play the role of
those women. Later she started helping them and then she made her first
birthday cake alone.
When she got older she tried and appreciated different tastes from
different cultures, from Europe, from Asia, from Africa.
Since 1999,
when ONAR was opened, she does what she always liked to do.
To prepare beautiful dishes and share them with her friends and her
guests.
